Just off Interstate 94 at Exit 39 in Michigan is one of the hidden gems in the local food system. As their Facebook page says – “Step away from the ordinary to enjoy this retro “Mom & Pop” store where you can get a cup of coffee, Ice Cream, fresh produce in season, jams, and salsas.”
Jollay Market is an extension of Jollay Orchards that is just a few miles south of the market. The market allows visitors to make a quick stop off the expressway and fuel up their bodies, in a similar fashion to how they used to fuel up their cars in this buildings previous form. There are a wide variety of good available from a number of producers located on Michigan’s Emerald Avenue. Emerald Avenue is a collection of family-owned farms, wineries and small businesses based in Southwest Michigan.
With the summer months soon approaching, the market is getting geared up for it’s busiest season. Currently the only produce available is locally produced asparugus – but that is soon to change – when the market fills up with everything the summer has to offer.
Along with great local produce, the market offers a variety of treats for the whole family including freshly made donuts, gourmet coffee, locally made Sherman’s ice cream, and great homemade Mexican food. And of course I need to mention they do carry a great selection of Jake’s Country Meats.
And finally, what would any self-respecting tourist stop be without a Dinosaur Farm! For many miles you will see their billboards advertising “Donuts & Dinosaurs” – a great stop to stretch your legs and enjoy the best the area has to offer.
The market is open daily – during the week the hours are 7-6, with weekend hours being 8-6.
When you stop in let them know Jake’s sent you!
