Where to eat {#EatLocal} near South Bend, IN

Since moving from the burbs of Chicago in 2016, my family has found a community and a home in the South Bend region. Nowhere is that more evident than in the growing local food system. I am always excited to tell people about the great things happening in South Bend. #havemeatwilltravel

Purple Porch Food Co-op –

Their salad and hot food bar are consistently my top suggestion when people ask me where to get lunch in South Bend. A combination of great local food and people who care about their craft equals a wonderful experience. In addition to a nice selection of ready to eat items, the Purple Porch is a strong supporter of the local food system including many producers including Jake’s Country Meats, Farming for Life, and Zen Cafe Coffee Roasters.

Corndance –

CorndanceConsidered by many to be the premier dining option in the South Bend region, and with good reason…. Executive Chef Drew Sachau is constantly working to elevate the experience at Corndance. Including creating a whole animal butchery program that now includes a fresh meat case called the Bourbon & Butcher and offering a variety of aged steaks. Be sure and check the availability board as soon as you arrive to reserve your cut.

Heavenly Goat –

IMG_20180711_155138_892Just recently celebrating their 1st full year of operation, the kitchen at Heavenly Goat has undergone many changes in just 12 short months. While change can be hard, when the focus is on constantly improving the guest experience the results speak for themselves. Owner and Brewer Joel Miller has put together a wonderful team that brings years of experience together. Featuring a scratch-made kitchen that sources many items locally. The schnitzel and waffles is the best thing I’ve had in a while and their burgers are top notch. The beer is outstanding as well!

Evil Czech –

EC LogoA sister concept with the previously mentioned Corndance, Evil Czech has done the extraordinary feat of building a reputation of their own apart from Corndance. In addition to being a regionally known craft brewery the kitchen team at Evil Czech has developed an amazing menu that includes many unique takes on pub food and focuses on locally sourced products. The atmosphere is lively and the staff is friendly.
